The hypoglycemic effect of cinnamon extract in diabetic
A randomized, double blind study in a total of 66 patients with type 2 diabetes.
We compared patients who received 120 and 360 mg of cinnamon extract daily plus gliclazide for 3 months to those who received gliclazide plus placebo.
It was found that patients who received cinnamon extract had lower blood sugar levels and HbA1c (shown cumulative glucose) values.
But in the placebo group there was no effect. Triglyceride levels were reduced in extract-treated patients. Hepatic transminase enzymes were unchanged in all groups.
It was concluded that cinnamon was effective in lowering blood sugar in non-insulin-dependent diabetics.
